Ruskinja Ksenija Sukinova, 21-godišnja plavuša rođena na severu Sibira, izabrana je sinoć u Johanesburgu za Mis sveta 2008.

U konkurenciji ostalih 108 kandidatkinja, za prvu pratilju izabrana je Indijka Parvataj Omanakutan a za drugu Garbijela Valkot iz Trinidada i Tobaga.

Ksenija Sukinova druga je Ruskinja koja je ponela titulu Mis sveta, nakon Julije Kuročkine kojoj je ta titula pripala 1992.
Izbor za najlepšu ženu sveta prvobitno je trebalo da se održi u Kijevu 4. oktobra, ali je zbog Rusko-Gruzijskog konflikta u septembru odlučeno da se ipak održi u Johanesburgu.
Svečanost proglašenja Mis sveta u Južnoafričkoj Republici, direktno su prenosile televizijske stanice u 187 zemalja.

Prvi put od kada se takmičenje održava, gledaoci su za polufinalistkinje mogli da glasaju preko Interneta.
