Iako je imao rekordan broj nominacija film Jamesa Camerona “Avatar” uspeo je da osvoji samo tri Oscara. Zvezda večeri bila je bivša Cameronova žena Kathryn Bigelow.
Upravo onako kako su prognozirali kritičari, svečana dodela 82. nagrade američke filmse akademije “Oscar” protkla je u znaku velikih iznenađenja, a najveće razočarenje doživeo James Cameron, čiji je film “Avatar” imao najviše nominacija, a osvojio je samo 3 Oscara u tehničkim kategorijama.
Za najboljeg glumca proglašen je Jeff Bridges za ulogu u filmu “Crazy Heart”, dok je nagrada za najbolju glumicu otišla Sandri Bullock za njenu ulogu u “Blind Side” koja je samo dan ranije nagrađena i “Zlatrnom Malinom”.
Najboljim sporednim glumcima proglašeni su Christoph Waltz za “Nemilosrdne gadove” te Mo’Nique za ulogu u filmu “Precious”.
Najboljim animiranim filmom proglašen je film “Nebesa”, dok je Oscara za najbolji film dobila ratna drama “Hurt Locker” koju je režirala Kathryn Bigelow, inače bivša supruga Jamesa Camerona. To je ujedno i prvi put da je Oscar za najboljeg reditelja dodeljen ženi.
Avatar je na kraju osvojio samo tri Oscara, dok je Hurt Locker osvojio šest.
Cameron je iako poražen, jer su mu proricali rekordan broj Oscara za “Avatar”, ipak čestitao svojoj bivšoj supruzi na nagradama.
